Obituary

Elizabeth "Bette" Bonnivier Whicher, age 91, a resident of Arkansas and previously of many other states, including Oklahoma, Maryland, Illinois, North Dakota and Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away the morning of Friday, June 28, 2024, at Mitchell Nursing Center.  She was born June 7, 1933, in Oak Park, Illinois to Almer John and Therese Ruth Walther Bonnivier.

She was primarily a devoted stay-at-home mom who ensured her children could pursue their interests. But she also spent several years working at UPS, where she loved to engage with the customers.

She was very active, often in a leadership capacity, in many volunteer endeavors that allowed her to contribute to the many communities she lived in. She was also an avid card player and a licensed HAM radio operator, and she enjoyed travel and long drives.  She was a skilled craftsperson who loved all types of projects, including pottery, sewing, painting, and home interior design.

Everyone she interacted with was blessed by her generous spirit and happy demeanor. She was always the life of the party with her fun and lighthearted personality. Her smile and contagious laughter lit up every room she entered. And she was always there for people who needed guidance or to be consoled.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Gerald Whicher; and a son Alan Gerald Whicher.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Diane Therese  and Carroll W. Wollard II of Maryland; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence "Larry" John  and Natalie Whicher of Arkansas and Pamela Layton (widow of Alan Whicher) of Delaware ; 12 grandchildren, Margaret, Meredith, Michelle, Mindy, Melanie, Ryan, Christina, Hannah, Wes "C.W.", Rachel, Victor and Alex; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Bette was affectionately known as "Gaga" by all of her grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, Maryland. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
