Obituary

Brian Keith McGowan, age 59, of Appleton passed away Friday, September 8, 2023, at his home after a short battle with cancer.  He was born October 8, 1963, in North Plainfield, New Jersey to Harold and Helen (Gray) McGowan.

On November 25, 2006, he was united in marriage to Shalene Michelle (McKenzie) McGowan, and she survives of the home.

Brian attended school in Hector, graduating with the class of 1982.  In 1984, he joined the Appleton Fire Department and held the positions of Assistant Chief and Board Member during his tenure.  He loved working for his community and later resigned in 2005.

As soon as he turned 18, he got his chauffeurs license and worked in the logging woods and sawmill with his dad.  He loved everything outdoors.  He worked most of his life doing construction, dump trucking, and hauling.  Brian was a Godly man and would give his shirt of his back to help someone in need even if he didn't really have it to give.  He was the hardest working man you would ever meet and did everything he could for his family.  He had an infectious personality and never met a stranger.  He was loved by so many people and had the gift of gab.  He had a smile that would light up a room.

Next to the love of his Lord, nothing could compare to the love he had for his family.  When time allowed, he enjoyed fishing, being out on the lake, back country driving, talking with his friends, and just sitting in the shop with his longtime friend, Greg Wilson.  He touched so many lives and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Survivors in addition to his wife, of 17 years, Shalene; include his father, Harold McGowan; four sons, Eric McGowan of Florida, Aaron McGowan of Appleton, Bryson McGowan of the home and Cody England and (Myla Myers) of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter and son-in-law, Caitlin and Lloyd Miller of Plainview; a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Steve Brown of Clarksville; a grandson, Weston Miller of Plainview; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen McGowan.
