Obituary

Catherine Ann "Nan" Zankl Hoffmann, age 87, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at CHI St. Vincents Hospital, in Hot Springs. She was born August 4, 1937, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to William and Margaret Payne Beckman.

Nan was an incredible woman. She worked hard her whole life, always putting family first.

After Nan retired from St. Clair County 911 several years back, you could find her on the golf course or volunteering at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. Nan was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Belleville, where you could often find her attending a St. Peregrine mass.

Nan was always on the go. In fact, she claimed the name "Daisy" as someone was always "Driving Miss Daisy" to the airport for her next adventure. Most adventures included visiting her two daughters and their families in Ohio and Texas. Her favorite vacation spot was the beach. She enjoyed many trips to the coast in North Carolina and Florida with her family.

Most recently, just in the last year and a half, Nan had the pleasure of welcoming four great-grandbabies into the world. They, along with her four grandchildren, were her pride and joy.

When Nan wasn't traveling, she loved hosting family and neighborhood friends on the back patio, enjoying a cocktail or two. Her neighborhood was her extended family along with her two nieces, Maggie and Lynne, who she adored.

When living on her own became difficult, she decided to move into assisted living. Nan quickly embraced this new place and made many new friends. She was a kind and loving person and always thought of others.

Nan's family and friends had two additional names for her. "Spunky" because she was full of life and "Our Matriarch" because she was the family leader and our rock. Although, she would probably say her favorite name was "Memaw" as she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much.

Nan's favorite motto was "God helps those who help themselves". She will be deeply missed by so many, but wonderful memories of her will live on forever.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Louis Zankl and Thomas Hoffmann; a son, Louis Zankl Jr; a brother, William Beckman; and a sister, Margie Miller.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Teddy Puckett, and Susan and David Frank; four grandchildren, Meredith (Matt) Landry, Erica (Steven) Buckler, Michael (Sarah) Frank and Nicholas Frank; four great-grandchildren, Stetson Buckler, Ellie Landry, Cameron Frank and Cooper Frank; a brother-in-law, Paul Miller; along with other relatives and friends.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Friday April 11, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at St. John's Catholic Church. The church is located at 1900 West Main Street Russellville, Arkansas 72801. Burial will be immediately following mass at Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
