Obituary

We remember David "Dave" Alan Starr, a man whose spirit was as robust as his words were profound. David, aged 40, of Fayetteville, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and a unique perspective on life.

David, a cherished son, grandson, brother, nephew, and cousin, held strong opinions that reflected his deep sense of self and a commitment to truth. He had a knack for cutting through the noise of life and offering insights that resonated with those fortunate enough to hear them. He referred to himself as the residential funny man, and he often found great delight in making things delightfully difficult for those around him.
In his own words, David's reflections extended to the core of human experience:

"Yes, eventually everything falls on you. What kind of person are you going to be in the end? No one makes it through life without some screw-ups along the way. That's life. How do you answer those challenges is the real question."
He encouraged open-mindedness:

"Belief is set in stone, and that your ideals can't evolve or change. It's much better to have an 'idea' than it is to 'believe.' Ideas can grow and evolve. They are fluid and flexible, as long as you are receptive to new information."
His straightforward advice conveyed a commitment to personal responsibility:

"There is always a fork in the road. You can either stop damaging other people, or keep it up. All you have to do is not drag people into your mess or hurt people you care about. Just get it together."

David was preceded in death by his father, James "Jimmy" Starr; paternal grandmother, Peggy Starr; and maternal grandparents, Mike and Diane Kelley.

He is survived by his parents, Michele and Roger Story; grandparents, James and Brenda Starr; brothers, Michael Starr, Jeremiah Starr (Victoria), Preston Smith, and Joshua Gist; aunts, Deborah Starr, Sherry Roberson (Clifford), Belinda Shelton, and Lori Kelley; nephews Jeremiah Starr Jr., Finn Starr, Quinn Starr; nieces Eva Starr, Piper Smith; his beloved dog companion, Harvey; and a host of cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, and extended family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers, individuals who left an indelible mark on David's life, include Jimmy Marple, James Keene, Mike Hovey, Tim Tarkington, and Kelly Davis.

The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the Shinn Chapel. The burial will be private for the family in Oakland Cemetery, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and share condolences on the evening of Monday, February 5, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In this time of sorrow, let us carry forward David's wisdom and remember him not only for the words he spoke but for the authentic, brilliant, and challenging spirit he brought to our lives.
