Obituary

Donald B. Hubbard, age 88, passed away on August 5, 2021, in Sebastian, Florida. He was born on February 9, 1933, in Springhill, Louisiana.  He was the son of Reverend Otis B. and Hazel (Evans) Hubbard.

He lost his mother, to illness at the age of two.  His father remarried a couple of years later to, Willie C. Reed, who raised him as her own, and gave him a brother, Otis Lelon (Lee) Hubbard, who all preceded him in death.  During those years, his father was a church builder for Assembly of God, and they lived in several communities all around Arkansas.

Don was a graduate of Arkansas Tech and was also in ROTC Drill Team.  When he graduated college, he served as a Lieutenant in the Army, and was stationed mainly in Charleston, South Carolina.  After his service, he moved to California, and remained there for most of his adult life.  He worked in Sales and Management there and met and married his (former) wife Fredda, and became a step-father, to both Joe and Mike Hoiles, then later had their daughter Kimberly, whom all reside in Texas.

Don was an excellent salesman, friend, and father.   His smile would light up a room, and always made people laugh, and feel good about themselves.  He, along with other members of his family, were gifted story tellers, and we were always "graced" with some of the funniest stories, about places they lived.  He believed in God, and faith and went to church regularly.  He always took pride from where he came from and was a genuinely a kind and honest man.  Don had hidden talents, like being able to play a bit of piano, and was also in high school and church plays and enjoyed a variety of entertainment, as well as golf. He also loved to travel by car, to beautiful and/or historical places with friends and family. He loved classic cars, and could tell always tell you what make, model and year it was, just by looking at it.  He also, loved photography, and though he wasn't a professional, he did enjoy mainly taking photos of his family.

Don retired, and around 2009, his health deteriorated, and his prognosis wasn't good.  He went to live with his brother Lee, and his sister-in-law, Sue, who took care of him, and kept him on a healthy diet. He began a Silver Sneakers class, which he loved, because he was usually making people laugh, while they exercised.

After living there awhile, Don's brother passed away, so he and Sue, moved to Florida, where she had family.  He loved it there, and he thrived in all the sunshine and the retirement community they lived in.  Sue's family, called him "Uncle Don," and they loved him very much, and treated him as a blood relative.

Sadly, Don was taken away from us unexpectedly, due to complications from Covid-19.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Hubbard; step-sons, Joe Hoiles and his wife Mary, of Frisco, Texas and Mike Hoiles and his wife Susan, of Wylie, Texas former wife Fredda Walters of Wylie Texas; his sister-in-law, Susan Hubbard of Sebastian, Florida; two grandchildren, Marissa and Jared Hoiles; as well as an Aunt, several cousins, and many friends and extended family members.

He had a Memorial in Sebastian, Florida at Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church on September 25, 2021.

A private graveside service for family only will be held at Oakland Cemetery, in Russellville and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
