Obituary

Doris Jean Kimbrough, age 83, of Russellville, died Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Legacy Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born July 14, 1942, in Russellville, the fourth of seven children, to Stanley Guy and Edna Mae Hutson Batchelor.

In 1954, Doris and her family moved to Florence, Arizona, where she met the love of her life several years later.  She married Mel Kimbrough while in Arizona, and two years later, they moved back to Russellville and started a family.  They relocated to North Little Rock so Mel could go to Barber school, then moved back to Russellville where he started at Charlie Sutterfield's Barber Shop, and Doris became a stay-at-home mom to her two children, Jeff and Kelley.

Doris and Mel accepted Christ as their Savior in these early years, and became members of Damascus Assembly of God Church, her original first home church.  Church became a big part of her life, and she taught many Sunday School classes and spoke to groups, young and old, about Jesus Christ.  She was an EXCEPTIONAL Bible teacher.

She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, especially devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren! She loved spending time with her family and her extended family.  For years the family gathered at her home each holiday to celebrate and play games.

Doris was multi-talented in so many things.  She loved gardening, planting both edible and non-edible plants.  Her Daddy would tell her each year that flowers were useless, and she should only plant the kind you can eat.

She was an exceptional decorator, and her home was always beautiful inside and out. She could paint with oils and watercolors and gifted her art to special people in her life.

She was a talented seamstress too.  When her baby sister, Mary, was born, Doris was just 10 years old and became Mary's mother and caregiver while their own mother went back to work.  She could use a peddle sewing machine like a professional, so she made Mary's gowns, bonnets and cloth diapers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Melvin Kimbrough; her second father, L.L. Ranzy Bishop; her siblings, June Batchelor Wesselhoft, Guy Batchelor, Kenneth Batchelor, and Sandy Batchelor Sotomayor; and great-grandson, Baby Liam O'Sullivan.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Kimbrough of Russellville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Brian Small of Hot Springs; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jonathan (Ashley) Dickey, Zac (Wendy) Small, Bethany (Lawrence) Raymond, all of Russellville, and Mariah (Patrick) O'Sullivan of Hot Springs; 10 great-grandchildren, Noah O'Sullivan, Lane Small, Easton Small, Tressie Raymond, Audie Raymond, John Patrick O'Sullivan, Peyson Morris, Paxton Morris, Penelope Dickey, and Baby O'Sullivan on the way; and her siblings, Barbara Batchelor Thrasher, Mary Jo Batchelor (Al) Pledger, and Mike (Connie) Christian, all of Russellville.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Shinn Chapel with Charlie Falwell officiating.  Burial will be in Hudson Cemetery at Dardanelle under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m., until service time in the chapel.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Kimbrough, Brian Small, Zac Small, Patrick O'Sullivan, Jonathan Dickey, Lawrence Raymond, Noah O'Sullivan, Lane Small, Easton Small, Tressie Raymond, Audie Raymond and John Patrick O'Sullivan.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the amazing hospice nurses; Corey Helton, Ashley Pirtle and Naya Crowell and to Legacy Heights and their nurses' aides; Emily Replogle and Zoe Hummer who lovingly cared for our mother as if she was their own.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
