Obituary

Etheal Ray Morris, age 81, of Russellville, known to many friends as E. Ray Morris, died Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.  He was born August 16, 1942, in Atkins to Steve Ray Jr., and Alta Laverne Coffman Morris.

He joined the Army at 17, rapidly reaching a rank of Sergeant, he spent much of his stint in the military in Germany, where he learned to ski. Throughout E. Ray's life he would enjoy a myriad of activities, all of which he pursued with energy and focus.  A few of those activities included skiing in Colorado, running/jogging (qualifying for the Boston Marathon in Dallas, Texas), tennis, and horseback riding.  He spent more time playing snooker and golf than all of the other activities combined.  His time on the golf course and love of the game of golf resulted in two spin-off endeavors, one as a USGA-certified golf instructor and one repairing golf carts.

E. Ray spent a career working at Firestone in Russellville.  He kept quite busy and wore many hats, the most memorable being his ever-present black leather hat.

He and his wife, Jannie, were married on January 26, 1963.  E. Ray and Jannie spent their entire 60 years together in Russellville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Cecil Morris and a brother, Robert Lee Morris.

Survivors include his wife, Jannie Morris; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and John Walker of Wilburton, Oklahoma; three brothers, Roy Morris of Atkins, Junior Morris of Dover and Danny Morris of Atkins; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Dennis Henderson of Dover.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Fisk officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
