Obituary

Frankie Duahn Walter, age 92, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Brookdale Senior Living. She was born November 18, 1928, in Little Rock, to Frank and Bertha Lovelace.

While in high school, she answered an ad from the Arkansas Gazette. This young Marine stated he wanted pen pals, "beauties," he said. Duahn wrote to him and they corresponded until his discharge from the Marines. After he came home, they met, dated, Herb proposed and they married on 7-7-47.  They celebrated 52 years of marriage. Herb had mentioned in letters his aspiration to be a florist; Duahn worked for Tipton & Hurst in high school in order the learn the business. They decided to move to Russellville and open Walter's Flower Shop in 1948. Duahn remained active, being named President of Arkansas State Teleflora Association in 1973. They operated their flower shop until 1994, then sold it to their daughter, Beth, and husband, Roy.

Duahn learned bridge at a young age from some new friends in Russellville. She often played bridge and shanghai until her late 80's.  She was an excellent cook, always clipping recipes from magazines and trying something new and different quite often. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Russellville. She began playing golf at age 32. Duahn played in tournaments around Arkansas, as well as weekly at Russellville Country Club. Many people wanted to be her partner because she was so good. She loved having friends over, traveling the world and would say, "My middle name is 'GO'!"  With husband Herb, they traveled to Europe and Mexico several times.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Jones; and a nephew, Billy Horton.

Left to cherish her memory with love are her two daughters, Jane Schuring of Magnolia, Texas and Beth Monroe (Roy) of Russellville; three grandchildren, Arend (Tommy), Austin, and Savannah Schuring; five great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Frank Taylor; and a host of wonderful friends in Russellville.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021, in the Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Brian Brock officiating, with private burial in Oakland Cemetery, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
