Obituary

After leading a successful and happy life, Gene L. Yarborough, 91 of Pottsville, was called home by his Lord and Savior and reunited with his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy, and his beloved son, Tim, as he entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

Born on December 24, 1931, in Waynesville, North Carolina to Cassius and Irene Yarborough, Gene attended and graduated from Waynesville High School. While in high school, Gene met the love of his life, Nancy Floyd Yarborough and the two were married on December 29, 1949.

Following high school, Gene attended Clemson University where he graduated with a degree in Ceramic Engineering.

Gene was not only a loving husband but also a loving father to his four children, Michael, Tim, Steve and Nan Yarborough (Phillips).  While raising his children with Nancy, he was employed at Acme Brick in Malvern, Arkansas, as the Vice President for several years. His position with the company allowed him to travel by private plane to 14 plants located in various places across the United States.

Gene later worked for Bartlett Collins in Sapulpa, Oklahoma as a Ceramic Engineer. After moving to Sapulpa, he was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church, enjoyed playing softball, grew the best strawberries, loved to dance and enjoyed spending time by their pool. Gene retired from Bartlett Collins in 2001.

Throughout his life, Gene enjoyed traveling with Nancy to various places including the Caribbeans, Germany, Italy, and Banff, Alberta, Canada where he made many cherished memories with friends and loved ones.

Later in life, Gene was a proud grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great- grandfather who loved spending time with every one of them.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy, and his son, Tim.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda Yarborough of Anchorage, Alaska and Steve and Kim Yarborough of Mansfield, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Nan and Michael Phillips of Russellville, Arkansas; eight-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Gene was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his third great-great-grandchild.
