James (Red) Battles, age 85, of Arkadelphia previously of Russellville died Friday, March 1, 2024, at Arkadelphia.  He was born November 11, 1938, in Monette to James Calvin and Ina Anderson Battles.

He attended the First Church of the Nazarene.  He was a united State Navy Veteran.  After retirement from the US Navy, he worked for Ladish Inc., and operated Battles Daycare with his wife and daughter for more than three decades.  He enjoyed cars, especially Studebakers and liked sweet tea and the Old South.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, his wife, Juanita Battles; daughter, Marsha Myers; a son, Rick Battles; and a granddaughter, Cristina Battles.

Survivors include his daughter, Tammie Chapman of Arkadelphia; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Shinn Chapel with Rev. Jim Fisk officiating.  Burial with military honors provided by the United States Navy will be held in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m., until service time at the chapel.

The pallbearers will be Doug Chapman, Hunter Chapman, Lucas Chapman, Calvin Chapman, Tracy Harris and Dan Snyder.

Honorary pallbearers will be Central Arkansas VA Home Health.
