Obituary

Lulu Maree Scisson Lewis, age 91, went to her reward on January 21, 2021, at 10:50 PM. She was born March 31, 1929, to Hays and Mab Scisson in Danville.

Maree taught school in the Russellville School District for 33 years. She was a member of the original staff of Sequoyah Elementary, where she spent the majority of her teaching career.  She was very instrumental in the development of the Outdoor Education Project that originated at Sequoyah Elementary and evolved into 5 th Grade Camp.  After Maree's retirement, she spent many years traveling around the world with her friends.  She couldn't wait to share her photos and stories upon her return. Her other joys in life came from playing in several bridge clubs and spending time with her family, especially if it included food! Maree was an active member of Family Life Circle and the Bereavement Committee at FUMC, Delta Kappa Gamma, where she served in various capacities, the Retired Teachers Association and her much loved book club.

She took pleasure in running into her past students and watching their successes in life.  She was known to have a quick wit and to speak her mind on any subject of conversation.

For the past 5 years she lived at Brookdale Assisted Living with many of her lifelong friends.  She will be greatly missed for her generous heart and leaves us all with love and fond memories of our times with her, not to mention her trademark gesture of "rolling her eyes in disapproval" without saying a word.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill F. Lewis; and her sister, Virginia Harmon.

She is survived by her two sons, William (Bill) S. Lewis, wife Susan Blackwell Lewis of Russellville, and Thomas (Tom) H. Lewis and wife Bonnie Pattillo Lewis of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Kerri Lewis, of Russellville, Scott Lewis, (Nicole Pearson Lewis) of Lebanon, Indiana, Marie Lewis Koehler, (Dan Koehler) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Hays Lewis of Austin, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Mace and Maddoc Ferguson and Henley and Sebastian Lewis.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Brookdale for providing outstanding service and the compassion they have shown to us during this difficult time.  We also would like to thank and acknowledge the staff, nurses and doctors of Arkansas Hospice.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to The First United Methodist Church, 304 S. Commerce, Russellville, AR 72801 or Arkansas Hospice at 2405 East Parkway Suite 3, Russellville, AR 72802
