Crow Mountain

Obituary

Martha E. Jones, age 78, of Pottsville (Crow Mountain), died Friday, December 8, 2023, at her home.  She was born on March 20, 1945, in Russellville to Harley Doyle and Ellen Mariah Bowden Roberts.

She was a devoted member and longtime pianist at the Mars Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  She enjoyed farming and being outdoors, and spent many years raising chickens and cattle, but her proudest accomplishment was being able to have her four grandkids by her side.  She instilled a strong work ethic, the value of family over material things and not letting the little things get in the way of what matters most.  She unselfishly put the needs of others before her own by devoting much of her time, often altering her life in order to be a caregiver to family members.  She suffered a major stroke in 2016 which left her physically disabled and unable to speak, however, she remained spiritually strong and continued to love and support her family the best she could.

She enjoyed collecting various things over her lifetime but was especially fond of her collection of coins, old and new.  She found joy in watching the hummingbirds right outside her window and loved watching the squirrels play.  She also loved dragonflies and watching the beautiful sunsets and most of all, sharing these moments with family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Red" Jones of Crow Mountain; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alvin "Nelson" Roberts of Crow Mountain, and Richard and wife, Ruby Roberts of Dover.

Survivors include a son, Rusty Jones; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Stephen Bolen and Marsha and Keith Oels, all of Crow Mountain; a sister, Jo Alvey of Crow Mountain; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Nina) Jones of Fayetteville, and George (Katherine) Jones of Crow Mountain; two sisters-in-law, Kathy (Jim) Byrum of Crow Mountain and Doris Jones of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Jake Oels of Crow Mountain, Lacie (Kyle) Bohannan of Dry Fork, J.D. (Jewlia) Oels and Kaleb Oels, all of Crow Mountain; four great-grandchildren, Grayson, Colton, Sam and Ashtin; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Private family service will be conducted at a later date with arrangements by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
