Obituary

Mary Joy Milliorn, age 95, of Russellville, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at Russellville Nursing and Rehab. She was born Feb. 27, 1927, in a the small village of Stoke, in Oxfordshire, England, to Rosa and William Churchill Tappin.

Mary was a proper English woman with a deep faith and love for her friends and family, especially her beloved husband Orban. Mary and Orban met in April 1944, when he was stationed at an Army base outside Wallingford. They began a six-week courtship until D-Day when Orban left for France. After 14 months of letter writing, Orban returned to England on Aug. 16, 1945. They married four days later.

In 1946, Mary sailed to America as a war bride and joined Orban in Texas. Their only child, Kenneth, was born in Dallas, Jan. 26, 1947. They lived in Texas and Russellville and were members of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mary loved sharing the Bible with others and taking many trips with Orban, her son and his wife, Cheryl, and her granddaughters. She returned to England many times. Despite her British upbringing, she learned to cook the best fried chicken and cream gravy. She loved watching the birds, spending time with friends, reading Orban's poetry, and keeping meticulous records of their memories and love story.

Mary was loved and cherished by many and provided great examples of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers, and her husband of 63 years, Orban.

Mary is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth, and Cheryl of Russellville; two granddaughters, Amy, and Meaghan (husband Scott); three great-grandsons, Finley, Miller, and Rory, all of Little Rock; a close niece, Sharon, of England; as well as countless dear friends and two very special family friends, Pat and David Thurmond of Texas.

A family conducted memorial service in her honor will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2022, at the Russellville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, with Bro. Miguel Rivera officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until service time at the Kingdom Hall, and arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
