Mary Lou George
Standridge
Apr 3, 1930 — Oct 10, 2026
Dover
Mary Lou George Standridge, age 96, of Dover, fell asleep in death on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehab. She was born as the fourth of six children on April 3, 1930, in Bass, to Johnny and Elizabeth Curtis George.
Mary was a long-time member of the Dover First Baptist Church, where she began attending in the early 1960’s. She was a member of the Joy of Living Women’s Bible Study Group held at the Dover Methodist Church. She worked for Brentwood Egg Company in Emeryville, CA, for 5 years, Valmac Chicken Processing Plant in Russellville for 1 year, and the International Shoe Factory in Russellville for 14 years. She left the shoe factory to help her husband run their own chicken breeder operation for 20 years. Mary was an excellent cook.
Her family enjoyed many delicious meals which were prepared with love. Her kitchen was a favorite gathering place for family and friends, and her breakfast biscuits and gravy were among her most requested meals, as well as her pies, cakes, jellies, and coleslaw. She learned to sew at an early age. Growing up in the Depression Era, she found it necessary to remake clothes for herself and her sisters. After she married, Mary would make beautiful dresses for herself and her daughter. She sewed many shirts for her husband and son.
When her grandchildren came along, she enjoyed sewing for them. Mary later introduced her great-granddaughters to sewing by helping them make their own aprons. Mary was an avid quilter. She hand-pieced many quilts over her lifetime, and to be gifted one of her quilts was a treasure.
Mary loved everyone and was loved by many people. She is greatly missed
by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Eulis Paul Standridge; three sisters, Gladys Peoples, Anna Coleman, and Gerlene Drewry: two brothers, G.W. George and Lee George: son-in-law, Joseph Goodwin; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Dickens Standridge. She was also preceded in death by a very special brother-in-law, Dr. Mikel R. Brown, along with nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Burt Standridge (Betty); daughter, Georgia Goodwin; two grandchildren, Melissa Strovers (Lance), John Standridge (Amber); a step-grandson, Brian Matthews (Karrie); five great-grandchildren, Wolfgang Strovers (Keegan), Maddie Strovers, Bailey Strovers, Duke Standridge, and Hayes Matthews. She is also survived by four sister-in-laws: Melinda Brown, Maxine Bumgarner (Donnie), Kathleen Campbell, and Susie Tennison (Doyle).
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Shinn Chapel with Dr. Lance Strovers officiating. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery, in Ben Hur, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time in the Chapel.
