Myrtle Cena
Armstrong
Jan 22, 1936 — Nov 6, 2020
Russellville
Myrtle C. Armstrong, age 84, of Russellville, met her Savior and reunited with her sweetheart and loved ones on Friday, November 6, 2020. She had been in St. Mary's Regional Hospital and was moved to Arkansas Hospice Russellville the day before. She was born January 22, 1936, in Forrest City, to John Monroe Gamble and Hester Jordan Gamble.
She met Tillman Eugene Armstrong after he returned from his service in the Japanese Occupation during World War II. They were married on August 24,1950, in Hernando, Mississippi.
Tillman worked for AP&L (Entergy) in Forrest City for 40 years. In 1995, soon after his retirement, they moved to a beautiful place in Russellville. Family members will always cherish the many hours sitting peacefully on their deck, watching the wildlife and making memories.
Tillman and Myrtle loved their church, Second Baptist in Russellville. They especially enjoyed the friends they made and all the Sunday evening fun times after services and meals shared in their homes. Myrtle's homemade coconut cake and crock-pot candy were special favorites at any gathering with family or friends.
Above all the rest, Myrtle loved her family. She was Momma to three sons and Nana to three generations. Myrtle was preceded in death by her loving spouse, her parents, a dear sister and brother, Francis Nesmith Parker and Houston Nesmith, and sweet sister-in-law, Peggy Nesmith.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: Ron Armstrong of Russellville, Jon and Guyla Armstrong of Springfield, Missouri, and Tom and Nancy Armstrong of Beebe; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by 4 siblings and their families: Lula Sweeney Jackson, Larue Sweeney Haynes, Johnny Nesmith, and Glenn Sweeney.
A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 14, in Rest Haven Memorial Park with the Rev. Travis McCormick and Dr. Chris Russell officiating, and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
The family wants to thank the staff at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home, and especially Dr. Allan Kirkland, for making this very hard time just a bit easier. You are all very appreciated!
