Naida Belle Smith, age 99, of Russellville, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born August 31, 1923, in London to William Henry Houston and Minnie Belle Witt Wheeler.

Naida was a member of London Assembly of God Church, having served several years as President of the Ladies Quilting Guild. She was honored to have her picture with a quilt that she made in the 20th Anniversary Issue of Patchwork Quilts Magazine in August 1993. She loved to cook, especially trying new recipes. It was her greatest delight to fly to California, Michigan, and West Virginia to visit family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Henry Smith; their son, Michael Gregory Smith; four brothers; and three sisters.

Naida is survived by her daughter, Peggy Jo Ballinger and her husband, Rell Lavoin, of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Rhonda Ann Reese and her husband, Bill Reese, of Houston, Texas and Bryan Ballinger of Russellville; Naida has been blessed with five great-granddaughters, Alexa Ballinger of Caldwell, Idaho, Taylor Ballinger of Houston, Texas, Rikki Reese Chester Flemon of Jonesboro, Riley and Michael Russell of The Woodlands, Texas and Regan Reese of Houston, Texas; three great-great-grandchildren, Colton and Cheyenne Chester and Charlotte Rose Flemon, all of Jonesboro; and numerous other family members.

Prior to Naida's passing she had five generations living in her family.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2023, at the Shinn Chapel with the Pastor James Lewis officiating.  Burial will be in Ball Hill Cemetery and under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the chapel.
