Obituary

Peter Dennis Haggar, age 72, of Russellville, met his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2024.  He was born August 11, 1952, in Gloucester, England to William and Gudrun Pedersen Haggar.

Lovingly known as Poppy Pete, he married the love of his life, Mary Haggar, on March 12, 1999. During his time in Russellville, Pete was a faithful member of First Assembly of God and then First Baptist Church.  Pete's number one love in his life was his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and he used every moment, even to his final breath, to tell people of his Savior.  His favorite Bible verse was John 3:16.

Pete's life led him all over the world.  He was born in England and was then raised in Norway.  His family immigrated to Canada and the United States.  He spent a good deal of his early life in California, but then moved to Arkansas.  After living 55 years in the United States as an immigrant, Pete proudly gained his United States citizenship in 2023.  In 2024, he eagerly voted in both the United States primary and general elections, desiring to show his grandchildren the importance of citizenship.

Throughout Pete's life, he worked multiple jobs, but his primary vocation was being a collectibles dealer.  His most notable collections were in trading cards, which stemmed from his love for sporting events.

More than his work, however, Poppy Pete's pride and joy was his family.  He loved them very deeply and provided for them faithfully.  He will always be known to them as a caring and generous man that encouraged them to seek the Lord's will for everything in their lives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bridget Haggar.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mary Louise Haggar of Russellville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis and Shannon Haggar of Medford, Oregon, and Shawn Haggar of Columbus, Ohio; two step-sons and their spouses, Chris and Marjie Walker and Larry and Bethany Walker Jr., all of Russellville; a step-daughter and her spouse, Jeri and Chris Knight of Russellville; a sister, Sylvia Sharp of Kingman, Arizona; 15 grandchildren; and numerous family and friends.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Greg Sykes officiating.  Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the chapel.

The service will be livestreamed on the First Baptist Church, Russellville, Arkansas Facebook page and on YouTube (FBC Russellville) at https://www.youtube.com/@fbcrussellville9469
