Rata Bratton Sponel, age 89, of Dardanelle, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. She was born August 15, 1932, in Delaware, Arkansas, to George and Ida Kelley Bratton.

Rata married Gilbert in 1952 and moved to Indiana. They lived there for 40 years, before retiring and moved back to Arkansas in 1993. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dardanelle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert "Dick" Sponel; an infant brother; four sisters, Ruby Hutcherson, Ruth Prochazka, Retha Griest, and Reba Guymes.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Lisa Sponel; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Ivy; and two grandchildren, William and Rachel Ivy; a sister, Betty Wesley; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Loyd and Rev. Ira Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Graves Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
