Obituary

R.C. Lewis, age 91, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023, at his home. He was born, June 2, 1932, on Lee Mountain, near Dover, to Dow and Lena Burnett Lewis.

R.C. served his country in the Unites States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, reaching the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, he moved to California, where he became a journeyman printer. There, he re-met Cordelia Simmons from Dover, and they were married on May 30th, 1956. After starting their family in California, they returned to Arkansas in 1960 to build their home, where R. C. would spend the rest of his life with Cordelia.

Throughout his life R. C. held many jobs, but he took special pride in his work as a master carpenter. His handywork can be found, still standing strong in many homes and churches in Arkansas. He was especially proud of his work on the Russellville First Assembly of God.

In addition to his parents, R. C. was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Wayne Lewis; five sisters, Pawnee (Norman) Winters, Pauline (O'Dell) Taylor, Beatrice (Jack) Jackson, Blanche (Edward) Jones and Janea (Carl) Faulkner; three brothers, O. D. (Louise) Lewis, Charlie Lewis and Thomas Lewis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Cordelia Lewis; three daughters and sons-in law, Becky Lewis, Marilyn & Kevin Beaton and Shirley & Kevin Kukuk; four grandchildren, Jennifer Eoff, Gabe Ketcherside, Briana (Sawyer) Pack and Kara Beaton; two great-grandchildren, Connor Pack and Wrenlee Pack; a sister and brother-in-law, Arlene (David) Simpson; and two sisters-in-law, Colette Lewis and Betty Lewis; bonus family, Alaxis, Garrett and Petra Ott and Scott Richardson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

R. C.'s chosen pallbearers are Kevin Beaton, Kevin Kukuk, Gabe Ketcherside, Sawyer Pack, Mike Hottinger and Dewaine Hottinger.

Honorary pallbearers are David Oates, Spanky Woods and the past and present members of the North Fork Deer Camp.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Russellville First Assembly of God, officiated by the Rev. David Downum and Pastor Chris Bradley, with visitation to follow.

A private burial will be in North New Hope Cemetery, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family would like to thank the VA hospital doctors and nurses for their care throughout R. C.'s life. Additionally, they would like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff of Hospice Home Care for their excellent care and support during the last days.
