Shirley Laymon, age 88, of Russellville, died Tuesday, August 2, 2023, at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehab. She was born June 22, 1935, in Dover, to Elmer Odell and Stella Juanita Goates Sanders.

Shirley was a previous member of Oakland Heights Assembly of God. She loved the Lord more than anything, but in a close second place, she loved her family. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and watching the birds around her garden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Clark; two brothers, John Claude and Elmer Owens Sanders; a sister, Edith Jewel Sanders; and a grandson, James Scott Laymon.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Clancie (Laura), Tony (Deann), Michal (Penny), and Bill (Tammy) Laymon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra (Parker) DeVore and Julie (Tom) Knotts; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie (Brenda) Sanders; a sister and brother-in-law, Patsy (Raymond) Chance; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Shinn Chapel, with the Rev. Jeff Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Goates Cemetery, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until service time in the chapel.
