Vernon "Shorty" Whorton, age 88, of Russellville, died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home.  He was born July 31, 1933, in London to Samuel and Elsie Bewley Whorton.

He was a member of East Point Baptist Church where he was a song leader for over 50 years.  He retired from ConAgra after 35 years and loved fishing, gardening and his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wynona Whorton; a grandchild, Amanda Whorton; four brothers, Bobby Whorton, Thurman Whorton, Marvin Whorton and Sammy Whorton; and two sisters, Marvell Hale and Judy Leech.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Dawn Whorton of Russellville; and a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Allen Brewer of Russellville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at East Point Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Pless officiating and burial in East Point Cemetery with military honors by the VFW-Rogers Rye Post 2283, under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
