Obituary

Victor K. Vere, age 89, died Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born on August 7, 1935, in Cobleskill, New York, to Victor Earl and Roberta Alma Mount Vere.

Victor was a veteran of the United State Army. He loved working and teaching in the field of Geology and was a geology professor at Arkansas Tech University from 1976 to 1998. Arkansas Tech University has an endowed scholarship named after Victor to generate interest income for a summer field camp that allows students to spend time in the field. His famous saying was, "you can't learn geology sitting in a classroom." Victor truly had a passion for what he did. He spent time taking students out for field work not just in Arkansas, but many other states across the United States. This passion brought him to the status of Emeritus at Arkansas Tech University after he retired. Victor became a Registered Professional Geologist in 1988. Aside from geology he enjoyed being a member of the Arkansas Muzzle Loading Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Vere.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Marianne Beins Vere; and a son, Kurt Vere.
